Korean Studies Center
The Republic of Korea has long been a country of great importance in knowledge, science, culture, economy, and politics. Over the past decade, it has broadened its influence in the areas of economy, society, and culture throughout all regions, becoming increasingly significant in Southeast Asia. Thus, for Thailand to foster any collaboration with the Republic of Korea, it is crucial to establish a profound and systematic comprehension of the economy, society, and culture of the Republic of Korea.
The Korean Studies Centre, part of the Institute of Asian Studies at Chulalongkorn University, is dedicated to research and academic pursuits. It leads the way in sharing knowledge, fosters collaboration, and establishes research and academic networks both nationally and internationally. The goal is to establish itself as the hub for Korean studies in Thailand, fostering positive relations between the Republic of Korea and Thailand, along with other nations in Asia and globally.
In the past, the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, has supported research in Korean studies and has managed funding for Korean studies research through the Asia Research Center. This includes one-year domestic research grants, publication support for research works, and six-month or one-year research grants for conducting research in the Republic of Korea. These efforts have systematically fostered Korean studies research in Thailand, establishing a solid foundation for knowledge.
Furthermore, the focus on promoting and supporting both research and academic work in various dimensions of the Asian Studies Institute has driven the implementation of research and academic activities related to Korean Studies in Thailand concretely. For example, the establishment of the Korean Studies Center under the Asian Studies Institute, the joint development and management of the Master of Arts program in Korean Studies (International Program/Interdisciplinary Program) at the Graduate School, and the extension of expertise in Korean Studies to the public.
The 4th National Academic Seminar on Korean Studies was held in celebration of the Korean Studies Center’s inauguration at the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University.
