“The Heart of Natyam: Music, Dance and Tamil Identity”
by Aniruddha Knight and the members of the Balasaraswati Institute of Performing Arts.
Aniruddha Knight is a direct descendent of Balasaraswati, a torch bearer of a tradition of Bharatanatyam which dates back to the early nineteenth century to the Royal Court of Tanjore. Balasaraswati was possibly the greatest exponent of this dance in its purest form in the post-independent India. She was also instrumental in showcasing Bharatanatyam beyond the frontiers of India, and in the process garnered worldwide recognition as well as popularity.
Aniruddha Knight continues to perform the family style today, and is artistic director of Bala Music and Dance Association in the United States and the Balasaraswati Institute of Performing Arts in India.He had performed at various prestigious venues around the world
On September 16, 2022, Aniruddha and the members of the Institute will be performing for the first time in Thailand as a part of a Developing South Asian Studies Expertise program funded by Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI).
